Licensed by the province. Not a tutor marketplace.

These are the certified teachers your child would actually meet.

Genie is a Canadian tutoring platform with one rule we will not bend: the person on the other side of the screen holds a provincial teaching licence. Every face below is a real teacher, teaching today.

23 teachers with public profiles on Genie today. The blue check means we hold a copy of their provincial licence — 23 of 23 so far.

A licence is not a nice-to-have. It is the whole filter.

Anyone can call themselves a tutor. A provincial teaching licence is different: a government body assessed the person’s training, checked their record, and can take the licence away.

That is the bar we start at — and it is why a Genie teacher already knows the curriculum your child is graded against.

What happens before a teacher appears here

Four checks. A teacher who fails any one of them does not get a profile.

The licence

We ask for the certificate itself and read the issuing body off it — the Ontario College of Teachers, Alberta Education, and the rest.

The person

We confirm the teacher named on the certificate is the teacher who will be in the room with your child.

The subjects and grades

A teacher lists only what they are licensed and experienced to teach, grade by grade — not everything at once.

The profile

We write the “good match for” line ourselves, in plain words, so you can rule a teacher out as fast as you can rule one in.

In their own words

Families and teachers from Genie’s first cohort. Verbatim, unedited, no star ratings — we never collected any.

Our mission: To take the guesswork out of choosing a teacher

We watched parents spend weeks judging strangers on a website, with nothing to go on but a photo and a price. Nobody should have to guess whether the person teaching their child can teach.

A licensed teacher, or nobody

Your child is taught by someone a province assessed, registered, and can strike off — not by whoever answered the ad. We ask every teacher for the certificate itself, and the body that issued it goes on their profile.

You never have to ask how it went

The moment a lesson ends, the teacher's notes reach you: what was covered, what was set for homework, what your child found hard. No reconstructing the hour from a shrug at dinner.

Matched to the curriculum, not just the subject

A teacher lists only the subjects and grades they are licensed and experienced to teach. You search by both, so the person you book already knows the programme your child is graded against.
